1958 – At 11 years old, started on the practice chanter with father and younger brother Ian. Tutor was William Grant of

             Strathdon, Scots Guards retired.

 

1960 – Lonach Pipe Band. P/M J. Laing. (Local Aberdeenshire Band)

 

1962 – Joined the Junior Guardsmen’s Company as J/Gdsm/Piper. P/M K.G. Roe.

 

1965 – 1st Battalion Scots Guards Pipes and Drums. P/M A MacDonald.

 

1975 – British Caledonian Airways Pipe Band. Grade 2 and 1. P/M R. Richardson.

 

1977 – Grade 2 champion of champions.

 

1979 – Blue Bonnets (City of London) Pipe Band. Grade 3. P/M K. Maclennan.

 

1980 – Croydon and District Pipe band. P/M M.J. Dowie; P/Sgt J.S. McCombie.
